Rayka Kobiella is a northern german-born artist and activist, balancing between theater, visual & performance art. Growing up in a small village close to the Baltic Sea, away from everything, she started to write and visualize places far away from her. Studying literature and anthropology lead Rayka to a nomad life as an artist and writer since 2000, finding her workspaces on stage, in public and site-specific-locations as well as in gallery spaces. Naturally she combines her interest in other cultures by diving deep into them, so she lived in France, UK, NYC, Johannesburg and Kampala. Rayka is always seeking for the most coherent way to tell a story and likes to utilize different artistic mediums. The idea of closeness and isolation/ understanding and misunderstanding in the private as well as in the political setting is a topic she follows in her work and culminates in community work against segregation.
Loving collaborations with other artists all around the world, she's a member of Label Gray NYC, the FREE(AK) SHOW (Uganda-Germany) and founder of the Performancekollektiv for New Music and Text in the intercultural context DissOPERAlusion (Hamburg-Beijing).
Currently she's building up an Artist Retreat in East-Africa.
